Outrageous, I hope Cooper Firearms goes bankrupt.

Cooper was called on his position because not honest supporter of gun right would ever support Barrack Obama. Obama has voted against gun owners at every turn except once - when he voted against government confiscation.

"Assault" weapons are first to go under Obama. Then, it's likely that "sniper" rifles would be next. The type of rifle Cooper manufacturers, actually - so it's kind of odd that he would support a socialist gub grabber.

Obama has publically spoken out against anything semi-automatic, any form of concealed carry, and wants to increase taxes on guns and ammo. He's said this - you can't just say it isn't so and expect people to believe it.

AHSA is a front group for gun control. Everyone knows it. Stop trying to act like a read gun rights organization.

Just wanted to point out that that Mr. Zumbo implied the owners of some of the most popular carbines in America were "terrorists" on a Friday night, gun owners weighed in via email and gun forums on Saturday and Sunday, Remington dropped him on Monday, and the NRA finally issued a statement THE FOLLOWING THURSDAY. *We* grassroots gun owners emailed the NRA and let them know about it. They were clueless, and their offices were closed while all this went down.

Mr. Zumbo wasn't criticized because he said anything about the NRA (he didn't), but because of the namecalling he directed at tens of millions of gun owners. The fact that his #1 sponsor, Remington, not only sells ammunition for the guns he slammed as "terrorist weapons" (and .223 Remington is Remington's top selling centerfire caliber by far), but also manufactures AR-based hunting rifles in .223 and 6.8mm Remington, also had a lot to do with his loss of sponsorship.

Mr. Zumbo realized his error, apologized repeatedly for the smear, and came to appreciate why the AR-15 platform is the most popular centerfire target rifle in America. He is now back in the good graces of the shooting community, as far as I can tell---which ALSO had nothing to do with the NRA.

Don't let the NRA take the credit for what was truly a grassroots response.

I don't understand the problem with Mr. Cooper loosing his job. Last time I heard it was ok to cast your dollar vote against whom you wish and if gun owners refuse to spend their money with a person they disagree with thats their right. Why should anyone be condemed for refusing to fund a group or individual they believe is working against thei self interest. Would it be the same if a person refused to purchase from Rush Limbaugh's sponsersif they didn't agree with Rush? I may be wrong but I thought thats what freedom was all about. Its called casting youe economic vote.

I totally condemn forcing him out merely because of his opinion in a presidential election and even worse, because of his vote. There is a lot of misinformation on this. Apparently Mr Cooper only supported Obama over Hillary in the primaries. It isn't known whether he supported Obama over McCain or not in the general election, and it doesn't matter as far as his job is concerned.

When Zumbo took an anti gun position he got a well deserved spanking and opened his mind and publicly changed. The treatment of Mr Cooper is just wrong.

I did not vote for Obama, and if given the opportunity I would not vote for him again today but as an american he now is my president and I will support any wise decisions that he might make, I live in the deep south, Mississippi to be exact and I grew up hunting and fishing with my grandfather who trained B-29 pilots in world war 2, I also had an uncle who stormed the beach at normandy, just the mention of being akin to two such brave americans brings tears to my eyes just now, i really havent thought about it in awhile. But I will say this, I have a wife and 3 children who all have hunted at my side and killed game animals and I have taught them gun safety and marksmanship. And they realize that if anyone tries to disarm them or I in any way, that person, lawmaker or government would be met with LIFE-THREATENING RESISTANCE, hunting is a way of life for me, I actually work every day with that thought in mind, I would willingly and gladly give my life today for the right to keep and bear arms for without my ability to hunt, fish, defend my family and my country I really would not want to live. I have never shot anyone and I hope I never have too, I dont harbor any desire to shoot another human being but if backed into that corner I WILL NOT HESITATE. If our government is wise I believe they will leave the law abiding gun owners alone, they dont want another civil war, which is precisely what they would get. I appreciate this chance to call attention to the radical position of the NRA. I also have grave doubts that anyone who is attracted to the radical right will listen to anyone not standing next to them, ranting & raving gloom, doom and dispair, to quit hating long enough to take a deep breath, and say I want to hear your side as well. The Rush limbaugh's of the world have filled a need for at least 30% of Americans to fear and hate. Bush painted a picture of terrorists in legion numbers hiding behind every tree, just waiting for the DFL to win, at which time they, the terrorists, would emerge and rape and kill unabated here in the USA. And won! The NRA gives a similar picture involving our own DFL'ers going house to house confiscating guns. It also sadden's me that all too many churches have taken a hard right position and blindly support the right. Separation of church and state?, not so any more!

I commend you and your organization for keeping a level head in the midst of this and taking a stand for Mr. Cooper. I'm a former member of the NRA, a lifelong gun owner and hunter, and in fact donated to and voted for Mr. Obama. Keep up the good work and continue to get the word out that there is an excellent alternative for gun owners/hunters who think for themselves to join/support.

John Armstrong has my court case in his report on Domestic Violence. I told a gun owning drub dealer to leave my kids alone or else so I think I have a right to put my two cents in this argument. The NRA supported the lying Tom Ridge as governor of Penna and he and Senator McCain voted for the gun ban that was blamed solely on Pres. Clinton. All of the people supported by the NRA are Republicans and Gov. Ridge pushed and signed into law ACT 17 of 1995 in Penna. It was a gun ban that the lameduck Gov. Casey would not sign in 1994 because the Casey's are true supporters of gun owners in Penna. (even though on another issue we are at odds).

Senator Bob Casey Jr. supports OBAMA, will the republicans drum him out of the senate of the USA if they get total power like they did when Gingrich did his contract on America??? The gun ban was not overturned until it became a sticking issue when Bush ran for his second term and he needed Union members who were also gun owners and usually Democrats.

I have a grave concern which I find increasingly disturbing--that is, most ranges and shooting clubs *require* you to have or get NRA membership. I live in Caribou, Maine, where I can't join either of the two local ranges unless I join the NRA as a member. I strongly oppose having to give my money to a political organization that doesn't have my interests at heart and one I believe who's leadership is corrupt.

The NRA's influence over the ability for any American hunter or shooter to do any target practice is greatly disturbing to me. My biggest fear is not the government's control of firearms, but the NRA's.

Like Ray, I've voted for Obama too. It's a shame I have to "keep quiet" about it around shooting ranges because of the venemous hatred towards anyone who may vote other than Republican (I've voted for both in this election).

What can be done about this serious issue? Are there any laws being violated by such requirements?

I do not support the pressure that forced a businessman from his business. People in this country are allowed to support the candidate they want. I also believe that the customer can and will decide if he needed to leave or not. That said, I was a proud owner of 2 of Cooper Firearms rifles. I was in the market for a third. But, I will not buy one now. As it is someones right to vote one way, it is my right not to support that individual or that company. I can take my $1700.00 and go somewhere else. I think the company is trying to salvage something out of bad P.R. but, it has happened. I would never support/attend any business/ group/ church or candidate that I feel would violate my fundamental beliefs.

My wife and I are avid shooters and we own several handguns. We believe that responsible handgun ownership and use can be consistent with reasonable laws and regulations governing handgun purchase and ownership that do not interfere with the right of law abiding citizens to own and use firearms responsibly. We're voting for Barack Obama this year because of the need to bring about fundamental change in the way in which this country is governed.

I know that we're not the only gun owners and supporters of gun rights who are Obama supporters. I have several acquaintances who are. But our voices have been drowned out by the NRA and its anti-Obama publicity which is designed to make it appear that: Obama, if elected, will confiscate guns, and; gun owners unanimously oppose him.

I can live on unemployment and without health insurance, but most of the 38 employees at Cooper cannot.

I ask that you help the employees at Cooper Arms retain their jobs and send a copy of your email to Cabela's and Sportsmen's Warehouose and ask them to put Coopers back on the shelf.

It's the last thing I am asking my supporters to do for me...and no, this is not a publicity stunt...this is from the heart!

Cooper was ousted by the board of directors of the company which have a duty to work for the benefit of Cooper Firearms' shareholders. If the board felt Cooper and his views would damage the bottom line of the company then they were absolutely right in demanding his resignation.

The problem is that he advocated Obama as CEO of the company, not an individual. If Madonna condems one I believe, then I have right to boycott her product as I boycott Cooper's product. If he just donated money and voted for Obama then it's his right and nobody would care for but he've used his position and company for his personal view. That's why he's fired.

I'm so tired of the NRA and their bullshit. I can't believe I used to be a member. I like to hunt and target shoot. The NRA did nothing for me but kept sending me requests for more Lobby Money. Barack Obama will protect my rights and fix this country for all. In God We Trust- In Obama We Hope.

I must say, as a lifelong Democrat from Wyoming (although currently residing in Colorado) I have never been a member of the NRA. I have always found their positions and rhetoric to be too extreme.
To me, hunting is a lifelong passion. As such, it's more than just the right to keep arms with which to hunt, but having animals to pursue and places to pursue them are equally as important. These are environmental and conservation issues. Issues that the Republicans are abismal on. It is nice to finally find a place that is pro gun, pro hunting, and pro Democrat. If there is an up side to this man losing his job, it is that I read about this site. I also read about Jim Zumbo, so I guess I'll have to follow up on him. The last gun writer I really liked was Finn Aaguard, who unfortunately passed on.

So Mr. Cooper got "Zumbo-ed" could have seen this coming a mile off. The slash and burn McCarthyism of the NRA(read: No Reasoning Allowed) will continue until the sane membership leaves the whackos to do the beck and call of the NRA leadership who's only interest is saving their 6 and 7 figure jobs. This is the very reason I gave up on the NRA years ago and have NEVER regretted it.

Obama will win this election and the extreme gun wackos and talking head(read ass) radio mouthpieces will whine for the next 4 years. But four years from now not one gun right of the average gun owner will be lost.

Mr Cooper did nothing to deserve this. If he is retained then the more (and most) important first amendment right has been honored. If not then Fascism is not far away.

I Commend Mr. Cooper for standing up for what he believes and will defend his right to do so.

At last!!!! A gun group who backs the "average American gun owner". Years ago I quit sending in my NRA check because I got so sick of always defending the teflon-bullet, assault weapon importer, and "fruitcake" gun owner. After years of my donation to the NRA, where is the new hunting land for me to walk through? I donate, but somehow, I'm always left on the short end, and mailed a new donation sheet(with request to raise my donation from last year, because it is a desperate situation and those liberals are after us at every turn). What has been done to protect my Average-Joe gun rights. I don't need a ten shot clip auto/blaster assault rifle to kill a 90 # doe in deer season. I don't need a street-sweeper to shoot a grouse. I don't need NRA protection to be an honest gun owner. The constitution guarantees that right to me, not paying initiation fees to the NRA.
How about a group that guards my right to hunt deer, shoot a pheasant, and take my kid trap shooting. That is all I want. If the "nuts" want to play with Russian Assault rifles because they feel insecure, then I guess that is their problem, but don't expect me to get all "gooshy" inside and send them money.
As for Obama - he seems like a nice young man with a good outlook for AMerica.
I hope the NRA loses 100,000 members for what it did to Dan Cooper.

I once had an extremly heated argument with a gun control advocate over the issue of gun registration. He maintained it was just common sense. I did not have a believable argument against it until recently where D.C. is refusing to issure a permit to the fellow who just won his second amentment case before the supreme court. How about that for common sense gun control?

I've called Cooper and they sort of verified what you had to say. I'm not voting for Obama and the NRA has nothing to do with my decision. You might be right when you say that Obama will not specifically take away our gun rights. All he has to do, if elected, is to pack the Supreme Court with liberal judges that will reinterpret the Second Amendment. So lets get real. You accuse the NRA of being ultra partisan while at the same time stumping for Obama. In view of your leaning I have to look at what you have to say with a somewhat jaded view. I'm not saying that in this case you are wrong. Perhaps Dan should have left his presidential preference in the polling booth.
